VP of Engineering

Build and lead the engineering organisation that turns TAL Corp's research breakthroughs into products used by hundreds of millions of people.

About This Role

The VP of Engineering sits on the executive team and owns the full engineering function — from hiring strategy to technical architecture to delivery velocity.

Responsibilities

▸Define and own engineering strategy, OKRs, and execution across all teams
▸Build and manage the engineering leadership team — Heads, Directors, and Principal Engineers
▸Partner with CEO, CTO, and CPO on company strategy and roadmap
▸Own engineering hiring bar, levelling framework, and compensation philosophy
▸Drive engineering culture — speed, quality, ownership, and mission alignment
▸Represent engineering in board meetings, investor updates, and external forums
▸Manage relationships with key technology vendors and infrastructure partners

Requirements

▸BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
▸15+ years in software engineering with 7+ years in VP-level or equivalent leadership
▸Demonstrated success scaling engineering organisations through hypergrowth
▸Strong executive presence and board-level communication skills
▸Experience at both early-stage and scaled technology companies
▸Deep understanding of AI/ML product development cycles

Nice to Have

▸Prior VP Engineering experience at a frontier AI company
▸Background in platform or infrastructure-heavy products
▸Experience managing globally distributed engineering organisations
