Research Scientist — LLM Architecture
Push the frontier of large language model architecture — context scaling, efficiency, and emergent reasoning.
About This Role
Our Research team works on the problems that matter most for TAL's long-term mission. You will have the compute, the data, and the freedom to pursue ideas that others consider too ambitious.
Responsibilities
- ▸Design novel transformer architectures targeting long-context reasoning
- ▸Run large-scale ablation studies and publish findings openly
- ▸Collaborate with infrastructure to make experiments reproducible at scale
- ▸Mentor junior researchers and review internal research proposals
- ▸Represent TAL Corp at NeurIPS, ICML, and ICLR
Requirements
- ▸PhD in Machine Learning, Statistics, or Computer Science
- ▸Strong publication record at top-tier ML venues
- ▸Deep expertise in transformer architecture and training dynamics
- ▸Proficiency with PyTorch and distributed training
- ▸Ability to translate research insights into production-ready improvements
Nice to Have
- ▸Experience with mixture-of-experts or state-space models
- ▸Background in cognitive science or linguistics
- ▸Prior work on long-context or multi-modal models
