Principal Engineer
Be the technical north star for TAL Corp's engineering organisation — setting architecture, raising the bar, and solving the hardest problems.
About This Role
Principal Engineers are the technical equivalent of Directors. They own the most complex architectural challenges, mentor senior engineers, and shape technical direction without managing people.
Responsibilities
- ▸Define and own the technical architecture for TAL Corp's most critical systems
- ▸Identify and solve systemic engineering problems before they become crises
- ▸Review and approve major architectural decisions across all engineering teams
- ▸Mentor and grow senior engineers across the organisation
- ▸Lead company-wide engineering initiatives — standards, tooling, and best practices
- ▸Represent TAL Corp externally at conferences, in open-source, and in technical publications
Requirements
- ▸BS/MS in Computer Science
- ▸12+ years software engineering with a track record of solving hard technical problems
- ▸Deep expertise in at least two technical domains
- ▸Demonstrated ability to influence engineering direction without formal authority
- ▸Strong written and verbal technical communication
- ▸History of shipping production systems used by millions of users
Nice to Have
- ▸Significant open-source contributions or published technical writing
- ▸Experience with ML infrastructure, model serving, or AI systems
- ▸Prior Principal Engineer at a top-tier technology company
