About This Role
Distinguished Engineers operate at the intersection of research and engineering. They are recognised externally as leaders in their field and internally as the people who set technical direction.
Responsibilities
- ▸Set the 3–5 year technical vision for a major area of TAL Corp's technology
- ▸Identify emerging technologies and research directions TAL Corp should invest in
- ▸Lead the most strategically important technical projects in the company
- ▸Advise the CTO and executive team on technical strategy
- ▸Build TAL Corp's external technical reputation through publications, talks, and open-source
- ▸Elevate the entire engineering organisation through mentorship and technical leadership
Requirements
- ▸MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
- ▸18+ years in software engineering with exceptional impact at scale
- ▸Recognised industry expert in at least one major technical domain
- ▸Track record of technical decisions that have shaped entire product categories
- ▸Strong publishing record, conference speaking history, or open-source leadership
Nice to Have
- ▸Prior Distinguished Engineer, Fellow, or equivalent at a top tech company
- ▸Deep background in AI/ML systems, distributed computing, or programming languages
- ▸Experience working at the intersection of research and engineering
