Director of Research — Alignment

About This Role
Getting alignment right is TAL Corp's founding commitment. The Director of Alignment Research owns the scientific programme that makes that commitment real.
Responsibilities
- ▸Lead the alignment research team of 8–15 scientists and engineers
- ▸Define the alignment research roadmap and prioritisation framework
- ▸Drive research into RLHF, interpretability, constitutional AI, and scalable oversight
- ▸Build the alignment evaluation and benchmarking programme
- ▸Partner with safety engineering to translate alignment research into production guardrails
- ▸Publish alignment findings openly and represent TAL Corp in the AI safety research community
Requirements
- ▸PhD in Machine Learning, AI Safety, or Cognitive Science
- ▸8+ years alignment or safety research with strong publication record
- ▸3+ years managing research teams
- ▸Deep expertise across multiple alignment research areas
- ▸Ability to translate research priorities into concrete team execution
Nice to Have
- ▸Prior research leadership at an AI safety organisation or frontier lab
- ▸Experience bridging theoretical alignment research and practical model safety
- ▸Active participation in the AI safety research community
